To Our WCSD Families,
This is an unprecedented time for our Westlake City Schools. As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the global, national, state and local efforts to slow the spread of the virus, the Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine issued a state-mandated three-week closure of all public, private and charter schools.
The Westlake City Schools are closing after the school day Friday, March 13, through Friday, April 3. Staff will return on Monday, March 16, to participate in a planning and preparation day for the delivery of online learning. We also will begin instituting additional cleaning of our facilities during this time.
At this time, all Westlake City Schools activities, events, athletics, clubs and field trips are canceled beginning end of day Friday, March 13, until further notice. Athletes will be able to clear out their lockers on Friday. We expect school will resume Monday, April 6, unless notified otherwise by state health and government authorities.
Gov. DeWine said the State will continue to review the situation, but families should expect students to be away from school for at least three weeks. It is important to note that there are no suspected cases of COVID-19 within our schools. The closure is state-mandated and meant to limit the spread of the virus and protect the health and well-being of our students and staff.
It is imperative to note student instruction WILL continue online and remotely. We are closing our facilities. We are not stopping instruction. Specific information on timing and expectations for remote learning will be communicated by buildings next week. If your child does not have access to internet connectivity or a device to complete work, please contact your child’s principal.
Please ensure your child brings home everything they will need to continue their education remotely. We will remind students about this on Friday.
Project Link: Project Link is shut down for the duration of the state-mandated closure. If you enrolled in the Project Link session originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, that session has been moved to Monday, March 16, at Parkside and is at capacity. Additional details will be shared with those families.
School lunch offering: We are in contact with our many partners trying to determine the most effective ways to distribute food in a safe and efficient manner. As details are finalized, we will share our plans with our students under the free and reduced lunch program.
We will continue to update you as new information arises.
This is an unknown and unchartered time for schools, teachers, parents, students, officials, our nation and the world. We must continue to support each other. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation, patience and understanding.
Please refer to our ongoing communications and recommendations about the coronavirus on our website.
