The Westlake Varsity Boys Basketball Team beat SWC contender Lakewood tonight 72-56 on the road.

Will Ostrowksi dished out an assist to Joe Klessel to start the game and then Klessel returned the favor to Ostrowski for back to back points. The Demons had 3 steals in the first quarter, but the Rangers took a 2 point lead 13-15.

Klessel opened the 2nd quarter with a hook shot, and the Demos leading scorer, Justin Garcia hit a 3 pointer to take the lead, but the pesky Rangers responded with a bucket. Both teams put on a show, and Westlake’s defense put the pressure on Lakewood outrebounding the Rangers with Austin Norris, Dylan Bednar, Klessel and Garcia leading the way. Ray Ellington shot his 2nd three pointer of the night and Blake Wolfe hit from deep to send the Demons into halftime with a 36-31 lead.

Lakewood jumped out with an 8-0 run to start the second half of the game before the Demons leading scorer, Garcia scored 2 points. The Demons forced turnovers with great plays by Tyler Kolocoruis, Nate Klima and Ostrowski. Westlake’s bench stepped up in the 3rd quarter, led by Wolfe with 7 points, to take their first double digit lead of the night 59-49.

Cal Reghi was nothing but net for 3 points to start the 4th quarter. The Demons got into foul trouble sending the Rangers to the line. The Demons continued to play aggressive to close out the victory 72-56.

Garcia led the team in scoring with 15 points, followed by Klima with 11, Wolfe 10, Reghi 7, Ellington, Ostrowski and Klessel each scored 6, Norris and Bednar both 4 points each and Kolocouris chipped in 3.
