In a highly anticipated matchup against the top 2 teams in the SWC, Westlake and Midview put on a shooting exhibition tonight, as the Demons lost 80-71.
The Demons started the night with fans on their feet as Nate Klima hit his first of five 3 pointers for the night, but Westlake quickly learned that Midview was going to reciprocate bucket for bucket. Both teams played an aggressive man to man defense, and the Demons were grabbing rebounds led by Austin Norris, but the Middies took the first quarter with a lead of 22-14.

Westlake came out in the 2nd quarter with another 3 by Klima. The Demons leading scorer, Justin Garcia caught fire and had an impressive quarter with 9 points. Westlake got a big lift off the bench from Cal Reghi who scored his season high 11 points, to help close the gap going into halftime 43-38.

You could not hear in the gym as both sides were cheering for every point, every rebound, and every play in the 2nd half of the game. Both sides erupted at the end of the quarter with a charge that was reversed to an and one, to keep it a single digit game 63-54 going into the final 8 minutes.

The Demons and Middies continued to play an evenly matched game as they combined for a total of 26 three pointers for the night, but Westlake could not pull out this first round and dropped this matchup 80-71.

Garcia led the team with 20 points, followed by Klima with 17, Reghi 11, Kolocouris 9, Norris 5, Dylan Bednar 4, Will Ostrowski 3 and Joe Klessel chipped in 2 points.

The Demons are 8-4 (6-3 conference) and play at home on Tuesday, January 21 against North Olmsted. TipOff is at 7:15pm.
