Unable to get on track offensively and unable to stop a relentless hitting attack by the Eagles spelled trouble for Westlake as they succumbed in a five inning mercy-rule shortened game by the score of 10-0. The Demons managed only three hits while Avon pounded out 11. Throw in five free passes issued by Demon hurlers and three errors and it was far too much for the struggling Demon bats to overcome on a beautiful day for baseball in Avon.
The turning point may have come in the second inning. In the top of the inning the Horns had a chance to answer a first inning Eagle run. Westlake had runners on first and second with one out, but couldn’t push across a tally. Avon answered by loading the bases with two walks and single. However, the Demons induced a 1-2-3 double play comebacker to Carbeck and it looked like Westlake may escape the inning with that 1-0 deficit intact. The Eagles leadoff hitter had his own plan and ripped a double to deep left to plate two and then scored on error to make it a three run frame and 4-0 deficit for Westlake.
From the third inning to the end of the game the Demons only advanced one more baserunner to scoring position and that was the game. Avon closed it out with a five run fifth.
