Senior Gina Adams scored 17 points and Westlake earned a share of the Southwestern Conference championship with a hard-fought 34-20 win over Amherst on Wednesday night.

With their 13th straight win, the Lady Demons (19-3, 17-1 SWC) finished tied with Olmsted Falls atop the league. It’s the eighth girls basketball title in Westlake history and the school’s first since 2016.

Westlake battled nerves and the Comets (11-11, 9-9) in the first half and only led 20-13 at the break.

Senior Abby Carrington made a 3-pointer early in the third and it appeared the Lady Demons were on their way. But turnovers and Amherst’s defense kept it close until the fourth.

Once again, Westlake turned to its press to force Amherst into some costly turnovers and Adams scored 7 of the Lady Demons’ 11 points in the fourth to put it away.
